Education in the Xenia, OH Area

XENIA COMMUNITY SCHOOLS
http://www.xenia.k12.oh.us

The Xenia Area Chamber of Commerce is extraordinarily proud of Xenia Community Schools.  Click here for some of the reasons.

The Xenia Community School district is recognized as one of the most valued assets of the community and has a significant influence on the quality of life of all residents.  In addition to the public school system, residents have access to many outstanding private schools located in the Xenia area.  Seven of these are church-affiliated.

Xenia Community Schools send over 60% of their seniors on to higher educational institutions.   Within Greene County alone, there are seven public and private colleges and universities.  Expand the area to include a 30-mile radius and there are more than 20 colleges and universities, plus a number of major industrial and high-tech research foundations.  Proximity to these institutions of higher learning is an asset of prime importance to the community.

High academic standards, diversity and preparation for the future are qualities of Xenia Community Schools.  Xenia public schools serve as a microcosm of our nation with the students’ range of ethnic groups, religions, and economic levels.

Xenia Community Schools consist of seven elementary schools (K-5), two middle schools (6-8), and one comprehensive high school (9-12), plus Greene County Career Center, one of the most diverse high-tech vocational schools in Ohio.  Elementary and middle schools offer a choice of the traditional school calendar or a year-round calendar Beyond the public school system, educational opportunities in Xenia include a number of private and parochial schools.  .

A wide variety of trend setting programs provide career opportunities for high school and adult students, and highly trained, dependable employees for area employers.  In cooperation with area business and industry, the Greene County Career Center is able to develop employee-training programs tailored to the employers’ requirements.

The high quality of staff members and the innovative programs they have initiated have garnered awards for Xenia Community Schools.  The 1998 Ohio Teacher of the Year continues to instill a love for science in Xenia students.  The Director of Curriculum Instruction won a National Teacher Leader Award from Reading Recovery, one of only five given across the nation.  Programs in Xenia schools have served as models for the state of Ohio and have received USA Today’s prestigious “Community Solutions for Education Award.”

Residents and businesses support Xenia’s schools.  In order to maintain high standards and attract the best teachers, Xenia residents passed a school levy in 2003.  The Xenia Educational Endowment Fund, the Partners in Education Program, and Greene County Higher Educational Opportunities are three programs that bring significant benefits to the schools and the community.

The challenge of preparing students for careers in the 21st Century requires study, determination and vision.  Xenia has the vision to believe its young people are its future.

Xenia’s award-winning schools continue to demonstrate excellence and innovation in program development and performance. Here are just a few of the many reasons why:

  • Project Renaissance - winner of  USA Today’s prestigious "Community Solutions for Education Award".
  • McKinley Elementary is Xenia’s year-round elementary school and has been chosen as one of seven model programs in Ohio.
  • Partners in Education Program - coordinated through the Xenia Area Chamber of Commerce, this program emphasizes the need for partnerships between business and education. At present, over 100 businesses participate in this program - and it is growing.
  • Greene County Career Center is one of the most diverse and technically advanced vocational schools in the state of Ohio.
  • Greene Co. Higher Educational Opportunities - The mission of GCHEO is to help Greene County residents access higher education through the promotion of financed aid awareness. They strive to help individuals complete high school and enter into postsecondary education either right out of high school or after an individual has been in the workforce. The organization has strong ties with XACC and with the Greene County Community Foundation.
  • Xenia Educational Endowment Fund - Xenia Educational Endowment Fund (a sub-corporation of XACC) is a charitable fund for those interested in improving the quality of education; building an additional non-tax base of support for the Xenia Community Schools; supplementing the educational needs of the district by bringing new resources for enrichment to the classroom; and more. As state funding goes down, it becomes even more important.

In addition to its excellent public school system, Xenia also offers a variety of educational choices through a number of private schools, including Xenia Christian Elementary, Xenia Christian High, Xenia Nazarene Christian, and St. Brigid Catholic Schools.
